BUREN ARTEFACTS

This series stems from the Mapping Buren video installations, also known as Antimap, which borrow from Daniel Buren's well known linear patterns. This particular series is an attempt to ponder on the ephemeral properties of media arts and to utilize painting and print as quasi-archival objects. Of course lens-based archives offer more precise renditions for original works, but other practices such as painting have effectively passed through centuries relatively unaltered. And so with Buren Artefacts, Sorenson questions whether archives should accord more value to visual similitude or resistance to obsolescence, while demoting the act of paintings and print-making to the status of archival artefacts.
